  3. Race Prep: In the four weeks leading up to the event, we’ll send you regular updates, including:
    • A detailed briefing pack.
    • Information on the meeting point, what to wear, and more.

Job Descriptions:

Registration Tent

You’ll be responsible for checking athletes in to the race and making sure they have the correct bag with race bib etc. We’d appreciate your help 5:00 – 7:00 on the 14th as well as 07:00 – 08:30 on race day.

 

Course Marshal

You are the person who makes sure our athletes go the right way, take the correct turn, enter the water safely.
You’re also that person who cheers each athlete on as they go past. The one who lifts their spirits when they think they can’t do it. You’re that positive, enthusiastic person who lifts spirits wherever you are!
You’ll have direct contact with Race HQ  and you’ll be given instructions specific  to your location on the day.
Time requirement expected: Dependent on location. All very approximate on finish time.
Studland Bay 08:00  – 15:00
Swanage Bay 09:15 – 12:30
Durlston / Peveril 09:30 – 12:30

Safety Cover

As a team, you are responsible for the safety of our athletes in the water. You will work with one of our safety boats to monitor a specific piece of water and assist an athlete if they get into difficulty.
Obviously, we hope you don’t have to actually do anything, but if you’re needed, you can make a vital difference.
You will either be provided with a rescue board or a kayak by one of our volunteer clubs, or if you have your own, suitable, craft you may use it.
You must have a relevant competency qualification for your craft and ideally have some form of aquatic 1st aid qualification.
Time Requirement expected:
Safety Briefing for all held at Knoll Beach 08:00
On the water Studland Bay: 08:30 – 15:00 or whenever last athlete past
Swanage Bay: 09:00 – 12:30
Peveril 09:30 – 11:30

Aid Station Volunteer

You’ll be helping to run one of our nutrition / hydration / aid  stations.
Each station provides vital sustenance to our athletes and you’ll be helping them access whatever they need as quickly as possible.
These short breaks in their course are a much needed moment to catch their breath, refuel and be ready to go again.
Time requirement expected:
Varies hugely dependent on location

Marshal (Start Line)

Helping the Race Director with anything needed at the start. Rallying everyone to be  at the start line at the right time. Helping athletes with last minute preparations, anything really!
Time required: 08:00 – 09:30

Marshal (Finish Line)

Helping the race director with anything needed at the finish. From pre-advising approaching athletes to running the all important timer.
Time required: 10:45 – last person across (allow 15:00)

Tail Runner (Sweep)

You’ll be the last one on the course, making sure everyone has finished in front of you and collecting any signs, course markers, litter etc as you go.
You don’t have to do any of the swims, just run the swim section and follow on behind.
