Fancy something spicy? Our long distance course has it all and we’ve added some extra flavour for the swimmers, giving this a 23% swim to run ratio for 2025!
You start off at Knoll Beach in Studland.
Run 1 is a 1km adventure through the sand dunes to the sea, followed by a 800m swim along the shoreline, approximately 100m offshore to bring you in near the visitor centre. This swim crosses the Studland Marine Conservation Zone, which boasts not only incredible sea grass, but also, if you’re lucky, you may spot seahorses!
You’ll then run along the shoreline to Middle Beach and back into the water for 640m to South Beach.
It’s time to get those legs working. Its off up to visit Old Harry rocks. Get your climbing legs on for the gentle but long ascent up to the top of Ballard Down. Take a moment to savour the views of Bournemouth Bay, the Isle of Wight and in the other direction, Swanage Bay before dropping down to Swanage beach. This is your 1st long run, covering 7km,
Then there’s a stunning 1500m long swim across the bay to the Stone Jetty, followed by a short(ish) run to Peveril Point where (sea conditions permitting, you’ll clamber down to the rocky shoreline, then swim across Durlston Bay.
Climb up the steep, narrow path to the footpath to start long run 2 of 4.7km, which takes you around Durlston Castle, Tilly Whim caves, around the lighthouse and back uphill before descending back into Swanage town.
A swim back from the Stone Jetty to the other side of the bay, before the long run back over Ballard Down the back way and into Studland. Run through Studland village and back to Middle Beach to swim back to Knoll Beach and the finish line for a high 5 as you cross.
